Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media analyst for more than twenty years. She is also an accomplished public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency a website that includes videos and comments on portrayals of women in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are depicted in pop culture. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they appear in popular media. Furthermore she aims to create the awareness of harassment on social media targeted towards women as well as those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in social and political thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the university. She had a plan to create an online series that examined the gender roles in games but was the target of a harassment campaign online. The harassment didn't dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many significant contributions to the world of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit which studies the portrayals of women in popular media stories.
